DESCRIPTION:“We Didn’t Wait for Freedom” Civil War Narrative Quilts by Vera Hall \nExplore the history of the American Civil War through Baltimore trailblazer\, Vera Hall\, and her narrative quilt series\, “We Didn’t Wait for Freedom.” An activist in her own right\, Hall’s quilt series focuses on her interest in black history during the transition from slavery to freedom. \nWhile learning about some of these important historical figures\, families and visitors will also enjoy a very special presentation from SC Humanities speaker\, Gerald Pitts\, as he performs an original one-act play as President Abraham Lincoln. \n  \n\nWHAT: UHM Homeschool Day\n  \nWHEN: Friday\, February 16 | 1:30 p.m.\n  \nWHERE: Upcountry History Museum\n  \nHOW: February’s Homeschool Day is open to children in 1st-12th grade.\n  \nWHY: Explore narrative quilts from Hall’s “We Didn’t Wait for Freedom” quilt series and hear directly from Abraham Lincoln*\n  \nCOST: $10 per student & $12 per adult\n  \nUHM MEMBERS COST: $6 per student & Adults are FREE\n  \nPERFORMANCE BY PRESIDENT LINCOLN: FREE to visitors\n  \n\n  \n  \n\n  \n*The performance featuring Abraham Lincoln is free to any visitors\, however space is limited. Admission is required to explore the Museum and participate in the subsequent Homeschool Day activities and tour.\n  \n  \n\nThis program is supported by South Carolina Humanities\, a not-for-profit organization; inspiring\, engaging and enriching South Carolinians with programs on literature\, history\, culture and heritage.
