SUMMARY:Lunchbox Learning
DESCRIPTION:The Doolittle Raiders\nPresented by Mr. Thom Iannarino\nU.S. Army veteran and former Education Specialist the the U.S.S. Yorktown\, Thom Iannarino presents his extensive knowledge of World War II aviation history in this lecture on the Doolittle Raids. Following the bombing of Pearl Harbor\, Hawaii on December 7\, 1941\, the United States military set out to plan an air raid on the Japanese mainland\, spearheaded by Lieutenant Colonel James Doolittle. The raids demonstrated the resiliency of the American fleet and the vulnerabilities of the Japanese mainland. This first aerial retaliation left Americans hopeful for the first time in many months. Mr. Iannarino will explore this pivotal military attack and the use of the American medium bomber\, the B-25 Mitchell in his presentation. \n \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLunchbox Learning is generously sponsored by:

SUMMARY:Lunchbox Learning
DESCRIPTION:What Does The Brown Decision Mean Today?\nThe Tangled Legacy of the 1954 Supreme Court Ruling\nPresented by Dr. Steve O’Neill\, Furman University \nDr. Steve O’Neill is a professor of history at Furman University. His research focuses on the history of the Civil Rights Movement in South Carolina. This lecture explores the legacy of the 1954 Supreme Court case\,  Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka\, and its lasting impact on the American education system. The ruling outlawed segregation in the nation’s schools but did little to combat de facto segregation caused by housing patterns and existing attendance zones. In the years following the Brown decision\, district courts worked to better define the parameters of school desegregation. Dr. O’Neill examines the defining cases in South Carolina\, emphasizing the Ganaway v. Charleston County School District case and the State of South Carolina decision in 1992. \n \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLunchbox Learning is generously sponsored by:
