Lunchbox Learning with Dr. Vernon Burton
September 22, 2021 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Presenter: Dr. Vernon Burton, Clemson University
Topic: Justice Deferred: Race and the Supreme Court
From the Cherokee Trail of Tears to Brown v. Board of Education to the dismantling of the Voting Rights Act, historian Orville Vernon Burton shines a powerful light on the Court’s race record during the short period spanning the 1930s through the early 1970s. Much of the fragility of civil rights in America is due to the Supreme Court, but as this sweeping history also reminds us, the justices still have the power to make good on the country’s promise of equal rights for all.
Lunchbox Learning is free for UHM Members and included with general admission for all other guests.
