In the early 1960’s Greenville, South Carolina was known as the “Textile Center of the World.” Even though this title was created by the Greenville Chamber of Commerce, the nearly twenty mills located in Greenville had made the fact practically indisputable. By the 1940’s there were 16 cotton mills and two dye/bleaching/processing mills located in Greenville, their geographic locations physically creating a crescent shape.
Join Don Koonce on a day trip into the heart of the Textile Crescent, including mill sites and villages, as well as stories of the owners, entrepreneurs and mill workers. Koonce, a noted historian and film producer has conducted extensive research on Greenville’s textile history and is currently producing a full-length documentary with PBS on Greenville’s textile story.
